The Story: Created in collaboration with Native voices from across Oklahoma, this design depicts an intertribal powwow where a woman performs the Fancy Shawl Dance while a figure performs the men's Fancy Dance behind her. The Fancy Shawl Dance, sometimes called the "butterfly dance," emerged in the 1950s among the Crow Nation, with dancers wearing elaborate fringe shawls that mimic fluttering wings.

A Ruby-throated Hummingbird was added at Heaven's suggestion, as the dancer's rapid movements mirror the flight of this graceful bird. A majestic raven carries a flowing ribbon inscribed with "Unitas," serving as a messenger linking the spiritual and earthly realms. An American Bison stands in the distance, representing strength, abundance, and survival.
